Tamegroute Green Pedestal Bowl with Bone & Silver Inlay | Handmade Moroccan Pottery
Handcrafted in Tamegroute, a historic pottery village in southern Morocco known as the “last place before the desert,” this remarkable pedestal bowl carries centuries of ancestral ceramic knowledge. Each piece is shaped by hand using clay drawn from the Draa riverbed, then glazed and fired in traditional open kilns where chance, fire, and time shape the final result.
The iconic Tamegroute green glaze is born from a precise natural alchemy. A mineral-rich mixture dominated by manganese, silica, and a small percentage of locally sourced copper oxide reacts inside the kiln, producing a living surface that ranges from vibrant green to deep olive. No two firings are ever the same, making each bowl entirely unique.
Much like human life, the journey through the kiln is unpredictable. Heat rises, materials transform, imperfections emerge, and character is revealed. Cracks, variations, and tonal shifts are not flaws but evidence of resilience and transformation. Each bowl tells its own story of endurance, fire, and balance.
Elevating this piece further, the bowl is adorned with hand-carved silver-plated copper and camel bone inlays, crafted by artisans from the High Atlas Mountains. The white details are natural camel bone, while the warm brown accents are bone dyed with henna, creating a rare dialogue between two Moroccan craft traditions.
Designed as both a functional object and a sculptural statement, this pedestal bowl is ideal for serving, styling, or display. It brings depth, soul, and heritage into kitchens, dining rooms, and curated interiors.
